Overview
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology provides care related to pregnancy, childbirth, and women’s reproductive health. Patients come to us for routine check-ups as well as for concerns that require closer monitoring or intervention. Clinical exposure and training
Clinical exposure in obstetrics and gynaecology happens across outpatient, inpatient, and procedure-based settings.
Students spend time in:
- Antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics
- Labour rooms
- Inpatient wards
- Operation theatres
- Ward rounds and case discussions
They observe how patients are assessed, how labour and delivery are managed, and how gynaecological procedures are planned and carried out. Over time, students follow patients through different stages of care and begin to understand how decisions evolve. All exposure takes place under supervision.
What we offer

Newborn care is supported in close coordination with the paediatrics department. The department also runs a regular breastfeeding programme in collaboration with the Nutrition & Dietetics department.

Students are guided on appropriate conduct during examinations, procedures, and labour care. Privacy and confidentiality are treated as part of routine clinical work. Student involvement is supervised and kept within clear limits.
Faculty and student guidance
Clinical work in the department is managed by faculty actively involved in routine obstetric and gynaecological care. We guide students during clinics, ward rounds, labour room duties, and case discussions as part of our obstetrics and gynaecology courses in Perambalur.
