Anti Ragging Committee
Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited and is viewed as a serious violation of personal dignity and institutional discipline, in line with the institution’s anti-ragging policy of medical colleges. The institution follows a zero-tolerance approach to ragging, ensuring that students are able to pursue their academic and professional development without fear, intimidation, or harassment.
Purpose of the Anti-Ragging Committee
The Anti-Ragging Committee has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The committee is responsible for:
- Preventing incidents of ragging on campus
- Creating awareness about the consequences of ragging
- Addressing complaints in a timely, fair, and impartial manner
- Promoting harmony and mutual respect among students
Preventive Measures and Awareness
The institution conducts regular orientation programmes and awareness sessions for students, parents, and staff to reinforce anti-ragging norms, in line with established anti ragging measures in medical colleges. Information regarding rules, penalties, and reporting procedures is communicated through official channels, including notice boards, student handbooks, and institutional communication. Hostels, common areas, and campus premises are regularly monitored to ensure student safety.
Reporting and Redressal Mechanism
To ensure timely and effective action, the following reporting and redressal mechanisms are in place:
- Students are encouraged to report any incident of ragging without fear of retaliation
- All complaints are handled with sensitivity and strict confidentiality
- Prompt action is initiated on every complaint received
- Each complaint is subjected to a proper and impartial inquiry
- Appropriate disciplinary measures are taken in accordance with institutional policies and applicable statutory regulations
Constitution of the Anti-Ragging Committee
An Anti-Ragging Committee has been constituted under the leadership of the Dean of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital. The committee is responsible for monitoring anti-ragging activities on campus, reviewing reports submitted by the Anti-Ragging Squad, conducting inquiries, and taking appropriate disciplinary decisions against those found guilty.

Support and Student Welfare
Student welfare remains a priority. Emotional support and counselling are made available to students who require assistance. Faculty members, wardens, and mentors work closely with students to encourage open communication, build trust, and address concerns at an early stage.
Disciplinary Action and Penalties
Ragging in any form is a punishable offence. Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence, as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution, the following punishments may be imposed either individually or in combination, in accordance with UGC, NMC, and applicable laws:
- Expulsion from the institution and debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period
- Cancellation of admission
- Suspension or expulsion from the hostel
- Suspension from attending classes and withdrawal of academic privileges
- Withholding or withdrawal of scholarships, fellowships, or other benefits
- Debarring from appearing in examinations or other evaluation processes
- Withholding of examination results
- Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national, or international meet, tournament, youth festival, or similar activities
- Rustication from the institute for a period ranging from one to four semesters
- Imposition of a fine ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000
- Collective punishment in cases where individuals committing or abetting ragging are not identified
- Initiation of criminal proceedings, which may result in imprisonment, as per prevailing Supreme Court directives
